Open Wed-Sat 10 am til 4 pm or by special appt.
Contact the Museum at 254-697-7055 to schedule a special viewings on other days of the week. We ask that requests be received at least one week in advance. We will try to accommodate each request as best we can.
Our classroom is available for meetings by contacting Jamie Larson -- jlarson@milamcounty.net. We can accommodate about 30 people.

    The Milam County Railroad Museum is owned by Milam County and is dedicated to portraying the history of railroads in Milam County. In addition, it is home to the Old Town Cameron exhibit. The museum is volunteer-operated and funded with a small stipend from Milam County, grants, and donations. While the museum is not part of the Milam County Museum, or the Milam County Jail Museum, it is part of a system of museums and displays that is coordinated by the curator of the Milam County Museum. The museum has one paid staff member (part time) and relies on area citizens to volunteer their time to help keep this Milam County treasure open.

    Old Town Cameron is a model of how Cameron, Texas appeared in the 1940's. It is a glimpse back in time and is a remarkable recreation of the town along with an operating model railroad layout.

    This model is the work of one man, John Johnson and his wife Frances. John fell in love with his hometown at an early age. As a young adult, he moved to Austin, Texas where he formed the idea of making a model of Cameron as he had known it. He found support at a hobby shop, and he began creating a miniature replica of downtown Cameron. Out of that beginning came the 18' by 40' treasure we now have and which we lovingly call, Old Town Cameron. It took John 35 years to create and build this magnificent model!
