Event Description:

The Cameron Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce a one-of-a-kind auction item at this year’s 6th Annual Steak, Stein, and Wine Festival. Local artist and Cameron native, Marilyn Willie has created an original painting that will be auctioned off during the upcoming event. The funds from the sale will be donated to the Cameron Chamber of Commerce to help support local events and tourism. Silent auction bids will be accepted in person from 10 am until 10 pm at the Art Walk at The Venue at Railfan at 101 East Main Street, Cameron. The winner of the original painting will be notified by the Chamber of Commerce.

Marilyn is YOE High graduate and was born and raised in Cameron.  Although her career in the health care field took her away from Cameron for many years, she eventually moved back home where her Milam County roots run deep.  She likes to tell the story that her natural artistic ability was first noted by her second grade Cameron school teacher.  Throughout her life she has found ways to use that talent in many avenues.  Whether it was drawing, painting on canvas, mixing colors of paint and plaster on a wall, or visioning and recreating a run-down structure or house, she has enjoyed the creative process and the pleasure it brings to others.

The 36” x 48” acrylic painting canvas entitled 'Railway to Milam County’ will be on display at the Art Walk in The Venue on Railfan during the festival on Saturday, October 14, from 10 am – 10 pm.

The painting was inspired by the very beautiful Milam County Courthouse building and the actual view of it in the distance as you cross the railroad tracks over by Orchard Park.  Milam County has been home to several railroads over the years. In 1881, a vote kept the Milam County seat in Cameron after several elections with Rockdale challenging the location.  The railroad arriving in Cameron sealed the deal and opened Cameron up for business trade.  The bell from steam locomotive number 3 has served since 1954 as a Victory Bell for the winner of the annual football game between the Rockdale Tigers and the Cameron Yeomen.

YOE Alumni will be able to get a sneak peek at the painting at The Venue if they are attending the YOE Homecoming Halftime party from 7 pm till 10:30 pm. The Friday night event will be at The Venue at Railfan at 101 East Main Street, Cameron.

This is the second Art Walk in Downtown Cameron and will feature display paintings, digital art, watercolor, sculpture, pottery, during the event. Some participating artists are Hailey Herrera, Melton Guthrie, Angus Paul, Randy Robinson, Murdock, Holly Glenn, Pamela Neeley, Mary Meier, Lillian Clark, and others.  The Art Walk organization was developed to give back to the arts community by donating proceeds from the artists sales to a scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to an art student at Cameron High School.

The Cameron Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization of citizens, businesses and industries who are investing their time and money in community development.
